Improving Document-Intensive Process Automation for CMS
NCI SmartDoc™ helps to transform millions of pages of paper medical records into meaningful data, greatly improving the effectiveness of our Zone Program Integrity Contractor and Comprehensive Error Rate Testing programs for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Our SmartDoc image processing and classification engine fully integrates with NCI's best-in-class advanced case management and analytics systems to enhance our proven medical review process. Starting with initial medical records scanning, SmartDoc reinforces the full document management lifecycle. It also supports the capture and subsequent medical records transformation, medical records enhancement (metadata extraction, classification) and medical review case tracking. NCI SmartDoc is fully integrated with NCI SmartView™, a full-featured image viewer capable of providing book marking, annotation, document sorting and key word search functionality. In addition, real-time visibility of the document management process is available on NCI's custom dashboard reporting solution.
“NCI continues to invest in solutions that increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our medical review professionals.”
Maximizing Benefit from Enterprise Architecture for the U.S. Army PEO STRI
Architecture and design can run the risk of being overlooked in today's IT environment, especially where commoditized IT and applications conceal the complexity of delivering integrated enterprise tools that directly support the mission of the customer, including achieving compliance or mandated requirements. A disciplined approach and implementation of enterprise architecture (EA) processes directly address this challenge — and are what NCI has been successful in doing for our PEO STRI customer. The architecture is the repository for business functions aligned to governance, risk and compliance requirements. This enables a common picture of what our customer’s business system must do and how we intend to build it. From this common picture, effective communications are enabled that clearly identify the "new capability" that is required and how existing capabilities are used to support it. The NCI project team then only develops the 20% of new capability required and reuses the 80% that already exists. Innovation at work!
“Our disciplined use of EA allows us to deliver more capabilities with the same resources. ”
Modernizing Solutions through Proven Agile Methodology
NCI provides a full range of IT software development and sustainment services to support a large portfolio of more than 80 systems for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Our work also includes modernizing legacy systems and developing new applications in support of FCC's mission. Specifically, we deliver solutions leveraging innovative program and project management discipline, Agile methodologies (focused on transforming legacy applications to the cloud), robust testing, Section 508 compliance, detailed training strategies and comprehensive cybersecurity analysis. As part of the ongoing modernization of the Online Public Inspection Files, NCI followed the end-to-end methodology from setting up environments to delivering a working product in the cloud. Aside from Agile development using a modular microservices architecture, our effort extended to virtualized environments configuration, data migration from legacy systems, data modeling, continuous integration and developing a system security plan based on FedRAMP. NCI has modernized many other legacy systems, including the forms needed for auctions and integrated Software-as-a-Service solutions, such as Mapbox and Sauce Labs. For new organization-wide initiatives, NCI helped evaluate many cloud-based identity and access management solutions and recommended Okta, which is currently being implemented.
