The Challenge
The MILSTAR system is a complex system of communications systems in use by the military and includes airborne, mobile, and fixed communications networks. The Air Force needed a program to monitor part obsolescence issues in a cost-effective manner to ensure continued use of the system.

The Solution
We performed a thorough analysis of several key components in the MILSTAR system, using its Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) program. We were able to identify thousands of critical part availabilities, as well as suppliers and stock sources.

The Results
Our efforts helped ensure that the MILSTAR system can successfully reach its "end of life." Although the Air Force's initial assessments indicated that replacement parts would be difficult to locate, our analysis proved otherwise and assured that no expensive re-engineering or re-design would be required.
